Watch Out for Heat Stroke: A Danger During the Hajj Pilgrimage

BANGKALAN - Every year, millions of pilgrims travel to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah for the Hajj pilgrimage. However, amidst this deeply spiritual journey, there’s a hidden danger many might not expect—the intense heat of the Saudi Arabian desert. Temperatures can soar above 41°C, and this extreme weather isn’t just uncomfortable—it can be dangerous if not handled properly.

One of the biggest risks is heat stroke, a serious condition where the body can no longer cool itself down, causing the temperature to rise above 41°C. The early symptoms might seem mild, like dizziness, nausea, or hot, red skin. But if left untreated, heat stroke can lead to organ damage and even death.

To prevent heat stroke, drinking water regularly is essential—at least five to six bottles a day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. This helps keep the body hydrated under the blazing sun. Wearing a hat, loose clothing, and staying out of direct sunlight as much as possible are also key to staying safe.

It’s important to watch for any signs of overheating, both in yourself and others. If you start feeling dizzy or weak, find shade, rest, and if needed, seek medical help immediately. The quicker heat stroke is treated, the better the chances of avoiding serious health issues.

With a little preparation and awareness, pilgrims can complete their Hajj safely and comfortably. The heat may be extreme, but with simple precautions, you can avoid the dangers of heat stroke and focus on your spiritual journey in peace.
